Accessibility Statement
Here at Escapism Plymouth, we make it a priority to create a welcoming and inclusive space for all of our participants, regardless of ability. We aim to ensure that anyone who visits has the opportunity to enjoy their experience without hindrance, and we have committed to improving our site and our rooms at every opportunity in order to make them accessible to everyone. We pledge to continuously seek to do what we can, starting with the following:
Physical Accessibility
- Entrance and Exits: Our escape room has a slight ramp entrance coming straight off of the pavement to accommodate individuals with mobility challenges. One of our emergency exits sits at the bottom of a wide flight of 6 steps.
- Design: The interior of our entranceways and escape rooms are designed to ensure easy movement throughout and are optimized for wheelchair users in every room as much as possible.
- Restrooms: We have unisex bathrooms with roomy cubicles, along with a separate accessible bathroom compliant with accessibility standards.
Sensory Accessibility
- Lighting: We aim to use lighting throughout our rooms that adequately fills the space without causing discomfort. However, due to the theming of some of our rooms this isn’t possible with ambient lighting every time. If extra lighting is required, torches can and will be provided.
- Sound: Volume levels throughout our escape rooms can be tailored to you, reduced or increased to suit the group.
- Noise Levels: We pride ourselves on creating an environment that helps to disconnect from the outside world by controlling the noise levels inside the rooms, we find that this means participants with sensory sensitivities can comfortably engage without feeling overwhelmed.
Communication Accessibility
- Instructions and Briefings: At the start of your experience our game hosts will introduce your game with clear instructions and helpful tips designed to help you enjoy your time with us to the fullest! This will be tailored to your group with learning and communication needs in mind to ensure you get the most out of this information, should further assistance be needed, our team is happy to oblige.
- Written and Visual Communication: Clear materials are used where possible to convey information and clues, additional lighting can be provided should the materials be unclear. Clarification can also be given on the accessible screens in the room upon request.
Assistance and Support
- Support Animals: We permit trained service animals within our escape rooms, and we endeavour to accommodate their needs the best we can.
Feedback and Continuous Improvement
We are constantly looking to improve our accessibility: should you come across any accessibility challenges during your time with us, please let us know. We are committed to addressing issues as soon as we are able to, and to make any necessary improvements and adjustments promptly.

Sensory Issues
Escape rooms offer an experience that can be overwhelming to some players. Our game hosts make sure to stress the availability of the ‘press to exit’ buttons that we have in all our rooms in the circumstance that a player wishes to leave the game for any length of time. All our soundtracks in our rooms can be altered to be quieter or to be absent completely upon request. This is also possible to change mid-game should players wish.
Colour Blindness
We often use colour based puzzles in our rooms – while our game hosts will check to see if the group contains any colour blind players, we advise at least one member of the party doesn’t have difficulty seeing colours.
